Hydrochloric acid shortage
The factories of one of the largest suppliers of hydrochloric acid has shut down. As a result, the company is temporarily (expected to be several months) unable to supply chlorine. As a result, there is a shortage of hydrochloric acid in the Netherlands and neighbouring countries. The company has therefore filed a force majeure report. Evides Industriewater uses hydrochloric acid in the demin water production process. Hydrochloric acid is used to regenerate the mixed ion exchange beds
Demin water delivery continues undisturbed
Because of this announcement, Evides quickly investigated the effect on our demin water production, came up with a solution and implemented it. Evides Industriewater will be using a modified regeneration method on the Botlek demin water plant from Tuesday 23 August. This means that we switch from hydrochloric acid to sulfuric acid to regenerate our mixed ion exchange beds. The modified production method was carried out without any problems.
As a result, the quantity and quality of the demineralized water supplied remains unchanged.
Our customers, licensing authorities and security region have been informed.
In the event of a persistent hydrochloric acid shortage, it is possible that the modified production method will also be applied at other production locations.
Update September 30, 2022:
At the moment, only the regeneration process of our Demi Water Plant Botlek has been transferred to sulfuric acid. We are still supplied with sufficient hydrochloric acid at all other demiwater production locations to use the standard regeneration process. We maintain close contact with our suppliers for this and are pleased with the cooperation in this regard.
The supply of demineralised water continues undisturbed. All our demiwater production locations can continue to supply sufficient and the desired quality as a result of the above-mentioned adjustment.
