Nedmag chooses North Water again
Nedmag and North Water are extending the collaboration for another five years. In the coming years North Water will continue to supply process water to Nedmag in a sustainable manner.
Sustainable water supply
Nedmag in Veendam extracts magnesium chloride (magnesium salt) for a wide variety of applications. The main ones are the production of refractory bricks for blast furnaces, the sustainable bleaching of pulp and the purification of waste water. It is also used in the production of cheese and beer and in wellness products. Process water is essential for Nedmag's production.
North Water has in the past taken over Nedmag's water purification plant based on the DBFO principle (design-build-finance-operate) and further optimized it into a more sustainable installation: the surface water taken in from the A.G. Wildervanckkanaal in Veendam is being upgraded in a water purification plant to process water with a low concentration of particles, iron, manganese and carbonates. In this way, North Water supplies a sustainable water supply and thus prevents the use of about 10% of the drinking water produced annually in Groningen for industry.
Perry van der Marel, Managing Director at North Water is pleased with the continuation of the collaboration: "This sustainable process water supply is one of the longest-running services for North Water and it is fantastic that after all these years this is still going to everyone's satisfaction."
At Plasman, Director Operations at Nedmag agrees: “Like water from the tap” Everyone thinks it is quite normal that when you turn on the tap, clean water comes out. That says something about the drinking water supply in the Netherlands. It is the same with North Water's process water supply, it is there and we are used to it without interruptions! That is why we are extending the cooperation."
