Special project started in Calandtunnel

Evides increases the security of supply of demiwater for industry in the Botlek and Maasvlakte. We are doing this by installing two large 500-metre long industrial water pipes under the Caland Canal.

Complex operation

Two stainless steel demineralised water pipes will be constructed in a new route via the existing cable and pipeline tunnel. These are the first pipes to be laid in this tunnel.

Complex operation
The pipe sections are hoisted into the shaft of about 30 meters deep and 14 meters wide, welded and fed into the tunnel tube. It is therefore a special and complex project and requires all kinds of extra safety measures. To this end, various work plans have been drawn up and, of course, these are all being put into practice. An evacuation drill was also held with the fire brigade.

Work started last week and the installation of the first pipeline is expected to be completed in October 2021.
