Question

What was the client’s question

Until the end of 2003, the Utility Services (US) division of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol saw to all utilities at Schiphol airport. Due to the privatisation of the energy market, in 2004 US decided to focus on the energy supply at Schiphol.

In 2004, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol decided to outsource its waste water purification and thus sought a party that, based on its knowledge and experience, could take over the ownership and management of the waste water purification (AWZI) Schiphol for a longer period of time.

Solution

What did we do for Schiphol

Evides Industrial water has chosen for the management and exploitation of the AWZI on DBFO-basis (Design, Build, Finance and Operate). This means that in addition to the management and maintenance, we will also see to investments. This has been incorporated in the rates for waste water purification.

Sustainable waste water purification Schiphol
The capacity of the AWZI has grown along with the growth of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and will continue to do so. In order to keep being able to comply with the airport regulations and technology, different improvements have been implemented. In 2017 we, for instance, implemented the DEMON® technology to remove nitrogen from the waste water in a cost-efficient and sustainable way. Furthermore, a fine sieve was installed that captures cellulose. This ensures a more efficient business operation. The sludge fermenter is used to generate biogas that is used for the heat supply and thus contributes to a reduction of the CO2-footprint.

This expansion and improvement are part of our service provision. We keep the waste water purification installation sustainable, cost-efficient and future-proof.
