Question
What was the client’s question
Due to expansion of the production capacity in 2003, the water consumption and steam production were strongly increased. This implied that more purified water was required. Since water treatment is not one of the core activities of Dow, Dow Hamburg decided to outsource this activity.
They chose Evides Stade Wasserbetrieb GmbH (ESW), part of Evides Industrial water. Owing to the already existing collaboration of Evides with the branch of Dow in Terneuzen, it was an easy decision.
Solution
What we have done for Dow in Hamburg
We have upgraded the existing demineralised water plant and expanded it. We also built a new process water plant on the basis of a DBFO-contract (Design, Build, Finance & Operate). This implied that we are responsible for the water management, including the long-term operations.
Result
What was the result
Dow Deutschland is entirely relieved and is able to focus its core activities.
By making use of surface water from the river Elbe, no more drinking water is used for industrial purposes.
The new centrale also uses less energy and chemicals. This results in costs savings and less impact on the environment.
