Question
What was the client’s question
In 2007 BASF Antwerp started a project to optimise the water portfolio. Therefore BASF put out a worldwide water tender. This had a dual aim: firstly, the expansion of the production capacity of demineralised water. Secondly, an inventory of the opportunity to optimise the current water management. And in doing so, to minimise the dependence of costly groundwater.
Solution
What we have done
The contract granted to Evides Industrial water. We have chosen a DBFO (Design, Build, Finance, Operate) agreement, regarding which we realised a double process water pipeline, a process water installation and a demineralised water installation.
Responsible for the water management of BASF
We also became responsible for the entire water management. Together with the built-in redundancy in the process water and demineralised water installation, our management adds to the supply guarantee, which is essential for BASF Antwerp.
In addition to quality and experience, also sustainability played a major role in the decision-making.
Result
What was the result
The installation is being fed by surface water from the river Maas, which was stored in the Biesbosch reservoirs. The use of surface water instead of groundwater is a sustainable solution.
In addition to this step in the area of sustainability, the intensive and constructive cooperation also resulted in costs savings for BASF.
